DAAL

DAAL

INGREDIENTS

Split gram chana dal 1/4 cup
Whole green gram (moong) 1/4 cup 
split black gram, skinless (urad dal)..... 1/4 cup 
Pigeon peas, split (toor dal) 1/4 cup 
Red lentils (masoor) 1/4 cup
Salt . . as per taste
Ginger .1 one inch piece
Dried red chillies 2 
Coriander powder I tspn 
Green chillies 2
coriander leaves .2 tblspns 
Cumin powder I tspn
Red chilli powder .......1/2 tspn
Turmeric powder .......1/2 tspn 
Tomatoes .2 medium sized
Oil . 3 tblspns
Cumin seeds 1/2 tspn 
Cloves 4-5
Asafoetida . a pinch 
Garam masala powder 1/2 tspn 

METHOD OF PREPARATION

1.Soak the pulses for at least two hours. Then boil them in salted water with 
turmeric powder till done. Wash green chillies, coriander leaves and peel ginger. 
2 Make a paste of ginger and green chillies. Chop the coriander leaves. Wash and chop the tomatoes. 
3 Heat oil in a pan. Add asafoetida, cumin seeds, cloves and dried red chillics. 
4 When cumin starts to change colour, add ginger-green chilli paste and sauté for sometime. 
5  Addcumin powder, coriander powder and red chilli powder. Add the tomatoes and cook till oil separates. Add cooked lentils and water if required. 
6 Cook for ten minutes, stirring well. Add garam mxsala powder and serve hot.
